Question:

My digital camera got wet

I have an Olympus Stylus 850 sw (a waterproof camera) refurb that I recently Purchased off of Ebay.com.

I had it at the pool the other day in the wave pool and later i noticed the screen was fogged over and it was wet inside the battery compartment (I think my friend may have opened it without thinking when she had the camera and gotten the inside wet) . The camera is still working but the lens is fogged over on the inside and so any pictures taken are VERY difficult to see. How can I get this to dry out? Would putting it in a room with a humidifier help the drying process?

Thanks so much in advance!!

  1. Do not do what some of the other people above suggested. There are several gaskets installed around the camera to keep water out. Having an unauthorized repair shop take the camera apart is not a good idea.

Take out the battery and the memory card and try the compartment the best you can with a napkin or towel. Keep the door open and let the parts dry for a few days.

Using a humidifier isn't such a good idea. A dehumidifer might help but it would have to be used in tight quarters with the camera. Keep the doors and panels on the camera open -- the camera is sealed otherwise.

  2. take the camera apart and dry it in the sun then put it back togather.

    see what happens.

if it still comes on it should work..

  3. take to a cheap place and get them to take it apart and let it sit and then they'll put it back together and tada it's dry.

  4. most cameras have insurance on them . if the ebay seller gave you the box complete with a manual, find the CONTACT US number for Olympus, or try the camera manufacturer's website . tell them your problem & i'm sure they'll send you a new one . if not, they should at least offer for you to send it to them & they'll fix it . if neither, complain to them, it's their fault that their product isn't good .

  5. Take the batteries out, and dry it out.  Do not put the batteries back in until it has dried.  If the water gets into the electronics and you turn it on, it may very well short it out.
