The little part of my canon camera, which shifts the photo camera to video and the slideshows, is broken. Where can I fix it? or better yet, where can I buy the replacement to fix it myself???

Thanks in advance.

  1. If your camera is still under warranty you should first check your telephone book yellow pages for the nearest authorized Canon digital camera repair center.  You can also go to the official Canon website to research that question.  If the camera is no longer under warranty you should look for a repair center that at least advertises repair of Canon digital cameras.  If you want to try to repair it yourself you should also look for a company that sells parts.

Depending on how long you've owned the camera and how much you paid for it new it might not be worth repairing.  If you've owned your camera more than a couple of years you can be sure your model has been superseded by at least one generation and that's something you should give weight to when you make your decision.

  2. Unless your camera is covered by warranty, it is probably going to be too expensive to repair.  Most electronic things like TV etc. are are not repaired because it is cheaper to buy a new one. Just to make sure, you could check with Ritz and Best Buy for prices.

The following may be helpful in the future. This won't help you decide to buy or repair, but could be the answer to some of your problems with any camera.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but with extending the lens, focus, optical zoom, and flash charging in the capture mode; it is like starting a car.  With bad contacts the camera can do strange things like shutting off with the lens out.

GREAT HINTS   Most cameras will reset or restore if batteries are removed for at least one minute.  Insert batteries again and restart the camera (Make sure the batteries have a good charge). Remove extra memory to eliminate this as a possible camera problem.  If all else fails, read and follow all camera instructions.

  3. google your local area for camera repair!

  4. go to the nearest camera store ask if its fixable, then if it isn't worth it I suggest buying a new one, check the warranty if u have it.

  5. Easy Answer

Any computer store that sells Canon will either have a repair depot themselves or tell you where they send their own cameras to be fixed.

Failing that you can e-mail Canon (go to their website www.Canon.com) and ask them where (in your artea) you should go or send the camera.

We have a repair place n our city but that won't help you. I only mention it to assure you that there are places to have your camera repaired.

    Hope this helps.
