  1. um i am sure ask your doctor

  2. Promethazine (Phenergan) is an antihistamine, dextromethorphan a variant of a narcotic with mild antitussive effects and very few other narcotic effects. Neither ingredient should be a problem, though the more drugs you mix, the more uncertainty there must be.

Excedrin, though, may not be a wise choice, unless it's all you have. There are different versions, but one contains 250 mg each of aspirin and acetaminophen, plus caffeine. If you take two at a time, you aren't taking enough of either to do much good. Better to take a couple of aspirins, or a couple of Tylenols. Or both.

  3. Promethazine is not a cold medication, it's trade name is Phenergan, and it is an anti-emetic (keeps you from puking).  And no, it is not available without a prescription.  You should be fine taking excedrine with it, since excedrine is an NSAID (anti-inflammatory).

  4. Yes, they are completely different drugs.  And promethazine DM is not available over-the-counter, by the way; it is only by prescription.  It's an antihistamine and cough syrup combination.

You can take it with Excedrin.  :-)

  5. Promethazine is not a cold medicine. It is available without prescription.
