I recently switched my pediatric endocronologist (im 17 so still need one of those).

Heres my Graves disease History.

7th grade - Diagnosed VERY hyperthyroid

Medication for two years

Bouts of hypothyroidism mixed in there

After two years I am stabalized

Junior year Fall- Feeling like lightheaded an overall not right so I get labwork and send it to new doctor

Says im hyperthyroid starts me on doeses of not tapozole but the one that starts with an M

SInce then I have been HYPOTHYRIOD she keeps reducing my doce and it gets a little higher each time but refuses to cut it or start me on synthroid just yet

I can feel that I am unhealthy. I am tired, a bit depressed, and just not myself.

I dont trust her and wantr to go back to my other doctor

You know how the scale for what is "normal" is not consistenet amoung doctors?

What if I was never actually hyperthyroid when she checked me and is keeping me on the low side?????

HEEEEEEEEELp

PS: My level for one thing is .89

  1. Wow... that sounds so much like me. I was diagnosed with Graves in 7th grade, too. I never could get stable with oral meds so I ended up having a radioactive iodine. I would talk to your doctor about how your feeling and all your concerns...and if she still doesnt seem to want to do anything I would change doctors. Thyroid problems can be very serious so its important that youre getting good treatment!  Also, you dont know the name of your med? If I knew that I could maybe be more helpful. And is the .89 your TSH or what?

  2. I would suggest raising your concerns to your doctor - you are old enough and seem mindful of your condition and your doctor will respect your opinion and should involve you in the process of your care.

If you still feel uncomfortable with this doctor you should see about changing but you might want to give it some time your condition is complex and may take a while to fix and switching doctors will start you back from square one and you will be unhappy again.
