  1. He will review all your records and see if there are any other alternatives.  They manage all of your medications.  They will decide if you need physical therapy.  They review any xrays and if necessary do joint injections.  They also refer you to other specialists if needed.  Make sure you take your records and medication list.

  2. well you should expect pain, he is call a pain doctor

  3. They will go through your health history.  They will talk to you about your pain, jot down a time line if you can of your pain so you dont forget anything.  Also; going to ask you about what meds have helped, what doesn't.  Basically; a million questions.  You'll talk alot; he'll listen.  Then, he will give you a plan of what he thinks you should do to help elivate the pain (meds, nerve blocks, etc).  Do ONLY what you're comfortable with.  I've told my pain doc no with many procedures he has offered and we just go to the next thing...  Go in with a list of things you want to ask, concerns, etc so you don't forget anything.

Don't expect to get any medication your first visit or two. They want to make sure you aren't a drug seeker (unfortunately some people are).  Going to a pain clinic, I just say be patient!  I wait 2-3 hours to see my doctor each time and nothing (procedure or medication wise) is going to happen quickly.
