My doctor was stupid. What do I need to do?

I made an appointment to see the doctor because I havent been feeling well. When I saw him, I told him I don't feel well, and that something's not right. He said what are your symptoms? I said I don't know, just something doesn't seem right. He kind of laughed and told me to come back to see him when I have some real specific symptoms. He said in the mean time, eat healthy, get 8 hours of sleep, exercise and take vitamins.

Can I make something up so that he can run some tests and figure out what's wrong with me?

  1. thats why i lost hope in reg doctors and see alterntive doctors and use alternative meds.  Get a second opinion obviously this docs a quack.

  2. Well it is difficult to diagnose something with the only symptom being "I don't know something just doesn't feel right".

I would carry around a journal with me for one week and write down when something is not feeling right. Answers questions like:

This something that doesn't feel right does it happen when I wake up, eat, go to the bathroom, do physical activity, when I go to bed or does it happen all day?

what do I feel? Does my head hurt? am i dizzy?  nauseas? or it it in my stomach? Do I have cramps or my stomach just feel sour and upset?

The first test he will mostly start out with is blood work. I know it might be difficult but the more descriptive you are with the symptoms the easier it will be to diagnose and get you feeling better quicker.

  3. No don't be a moron, he isn't a mind reader or a magician what did you think he was going to be able to do when you said " I dunno I just feel not right" read your tea leaves and guess. There are thousands of tests out there, and thousands of symptoms. If you don't have any then what you have is "the blues" or "the "heeby jeebies" When you have real symptoms go to the doctor.

  4. Your doctor is too busy for you to be crying wolf with phony symptoms. Don't do that to him. A doctor-patient relationship is supposed to be a partnership. He can't help you unless you help him.

Honestly, if you're not "well", then something specific must be wrong. Do you hurt? Tell him where. Is some physical characteristic of your body not the same as it was before you felt unwell? Tell him what, and how.

Your doctor will want to know what changed, before he can determine a direction to go for diagnosis. If nothing's changed, then perhaps nothing is wrong.

  5. You might want to get a new doctor because of the way he replied.  I wouldn't appreciate that, no matter what he said.

You should try to be more specific, though, about why you don't feel well.  Try to log your mood, etc. every day.  Do you feel flat and empty?  How much sleep do you get every night? (write it down when you wake up every day so you can see)  What do you eat on a daily basis?  Do you eat enough?  How much water do you drink?  Do you feel nautious?  Is your skin dry?

Just try to observe something, and if it seems to correlate with not feeling well, tell him you are concerned about a certain aspect of your life, or worried you might have some condition like high blood pressure or depression or insomnia.

You could always say that you want to come in for a check-up or physical.  You don't need a reason for doing that.

  6. As a doctor myself, I can tell you that complaining of "just not feeling well" is too vague, no doctor can narrow it down to which tests need to be done based on that.  You need to identify what exactly you think is wrong. I do agree that a doc should not laugh at you and send you out, but no one is going to do a battery of bloodwork on you without a more specific complaint. Its serves no purpose and will most certainly wind up doing you harm.

  7. I would find another doctor in your area. I've had less than great doctors in the past and now I have a great one because I looked around. Ask friends or family if they know a good doctor in your are. If you stay with a doctor you're unhappy with, then nothing changes.

  8. I THINK YOU SHOULD GO TO ANOTHER DOCTOR AND GET A GENERAL CHECK UP

  9. But what is it that doesn't seem right?

I agree with seeing another doctor. But you should give an example of why you bleieve something isn't right. is it emotional, physical or psychological?  You have to remember he sees alot of patients and if they all just said 'im not sure i think something isn't right' he would not have enough time to see everyone.

Symptoms are what provide a prognosis and diagnosis. which is how he will be able treat you.

  10. why would you make something up just to get some test done? if you are feeling any symptoms tell your doctor what are you embaressed about. they can't read your mind. if something hurts mention it you just can't say you dont feel right. i'd laugh at you too if you didn't tell me anything i'm not going to waste my time with a patient who can't tell me what is wrong with them and have me play this big guessing game. you are just paranoid.

  11. He should have given you a check up, but you also should have thought more about what's wrong

    THINK

narrow it down by area if you can and what it feels like
