had him for a minute. Then his head came up, He backed away 4 feet, started dry heaving, rolling in the dirt, then jumped in the ditch, rolled in the dirt and tried to jump in the front of the truck with me. (He had to ride in the back) What a smell!!

How do you get rid of the smell?

Anything better than the peroxide, baking soda dish soap method??

  2. Wash him with tomato paste.  I swear it works. There are also shampoos made for dogs that most pet stores and groomers carry.

  3. Gee, I guess I was lucky by chance. I had a Border Collie mix that was pure white. She would tangle with skunks all the time. I can't imagine turning her red with tomato juice. The property we lived on at the time was covered with eucalyptus trees. We would just leave her out to roll in the bark and leaves from the trees and the smell was gone the next day. You could see if you can find a place to get the bark and leaves and put them in a kennel for him to spend the night.

  4. wash him in tomato juice

  5. Pet stores carry Nature`s Miracle to remove skunk odor, I have heard it works, you can also try tomato juice. Pour it on let it sit for 15 minutes or so then rinse then repeat.

  6. This is no joke, I promise it works wonders! Buy some douches, you know like feminine hygeine douches like Summers Eve or something like that, and give him a bath in it! I promise it will make him smell really nice and get rid of the skunk smell. Our dog got sprayed twice by skunks and both times we used that and it went away. Do it!

  7. Give him a bath with the shampoo Pert. One of my friends had a dog do the same thing and it apparently got rid of the smell.

  8. A couple of years ago I got sprayed by a skunk. A lady at my church told me to get Febreeze. I did, and that stuff WORKS!

Tomatoe juice will remove some of it, but Febreeze removed every trace of the smell. Good luck

  9. I was at pet-co yesterday and they have a product for this, it was called skunk away or something, it is in the shampoo isle and wasn't very expensive.  may 5-10 bucks.  best of luck for the poor guy.

  10. YES IT IS TRUE AS THE FIRST ANSWER SAID TOMATO PASTE THEN RINSE HIM OFF

  11. Um..... I'm not sure if this method quite works on dogs but how bout tomato juice?

  13. Isn't tomato juice the old home remedy?

The government trapper here has some special spray that he uses when he gets sprayed by a skunk, but I have no idea what it is or where he gets it.  All I know is that it works.

  14. If nothing else works then you are going to have to shave his fur off. I feel sorry for him.

  15. Lot's of tomato juice............

  16. I have  found that mixture to work very well for me.  even when my dog got a direct hit.  I may have to be repeated more than once but it has always worked for me.
