Question:

My dog's left eye is red (the white part is red) and a little bit of discharge?

I adopted this dog yesterday. She's about 2 years old or a little more. She looks healthy. She looks like a mix of dachshund with terrier. I noticed today she had some discharge (looks like water) from her left eye only. So I opened her eye wide and noticed it was red, it looks like pink eye. What could this be? What could I give her? Should I take her to the vet? She looks fine. Like it doesn't bother. She tries to scratch it but barely does that. Thanks in advance!

  1. Take her to your vet to get examined to find out what is wrong with her eye because this could be a number of things including irratation from something, an infection, allergies etc...

  2. dog rather has a infection or something in the eye bath eye with salt water use a eye syringe if you have one if that does not work take dog to vets

  3. You should definitely take her to the vet and find out what's going on with her eye.  Probably some eye ointment will take care of the problem, but your vet will be able to tell you exactly what she needs.

  4. Just keep the dogs eye clean,I never heard of salt,it may burn, not sure, make sure hair is cut around the eye,and keep it clean,if it persists,I would contact Vet,if you got her at a shelter, call the shelter they may have a Vet on toda,if not wait till Monday and call yours

  5. It appears that your pet, most prob, has mild conjunctivitis according to the symptoms you have mentioned.

An antibiotic + anti inflammatory  combination eye drop

But remember - being an adopted dog, there are chances that she might have vitamin/ mineral deficiency -  which would also lead to similar signs minus 'reddening of eyes'.

So I would also recommend  vit/ mineral supplements for a few days.

  6. Wash her eye in salt water and if it persists take her to the vet, they'll give you eye drops. My dog often suffers with eye infections.
