  1. You should know, or should have known, that dogs and cats don't usually get along when they are first put together inside a house.  Why on earth would your Mother put food down on the floor instead of using a dog bowl to feed the dogs?  I'm sure the Golden Retriever accidentally bit you because you placed your hand in between him and the kitten.  Children should NEVER try to separate animals that are fighting because they can get injured.  If he has no history of biting, I would say that it's safe to keep him but don't get another kitten while you have the dog.  It isn't fair to you or to your dog to get rid of it because it accidentally bit you.  I've been bitten by my dog on numerous occasions because we would be playing with a toy and she would bite me while trying to play with the toy.

I have a Jack Russell Terrier, Cricket, that absolutely hates every cat on earth but one, Buffy.  She is my granddaughter's cat and they play well together.  If another cat comes into the yard, he's a dead cat if Cricket can catch him.  I've seen her take out a cat that was much larger than her because it wanted to fight and Cricket was in just the right mood.  She is not vicious and I would never think of giving her away or having her euthanized.  My dog is on my fenced property and if the neighbors want their cats all they have to do is keep them on a leash or on their property.  I'm not going to constantly be protecting someone else's cats just because they have stupid owners.

  2. This is a very bad and sad situation. I would get rid of the Golden Retriever. I have never known of a Golden to bite anybody! Even in that sort of situation. If you are planning on getting another cat, get rid of the dog, you don't want to run the risk of another poor feline getting killed. Send him to a shelter, and they'll know whats best for the dog.

  3. Dog + food does not = company. I am sorry to here about the cat. I feel very bad for the dog. Even a gentle loving animal will be possessive of its food especially with other animals. Unfortunatly that has escalated for you to a point where it can not be easily reversed. (This is why some guides will tell you to pet and love a puppy when it eats, this helps with  human acceptance). Your dog has decided he is alpha. I would not send him to another owner like this. A shelter or dog behavior specialist are quite possibly your only solutions now. I would also think strongly before getting another pet in the immediate future. For safety feed the pets you have remaining seperatly ( in different rooms if possible) Keep the cats away from the dog while it is eating as well. Structure and boundarys are important with any pet but even more so with multipets

  4. FIRST OFF, it sounds like your dog needs special training, and has food possession problems.

I wouldn't recommend having a dog that will turn on it's owner.  It sounds like you aren't a very good dog owner at all.  Why would you bring a kitten into a house where the dogs will kill it?

Define "Give the dog away", give it away to another owner?  I would never recommend that at all.  If you are going to get rid of your dog, give it to a shelter.

  5. He bit you and killed your kitten? I would seek professional training or find him a home with no other animals.

  6. Wow, some dogs just don't get on with other animals, he probably didnt like the new company. I think you should give it away and get another one that you know will be suitable with cats (if any ;))
