My 1 yr old Doberman got his paw stuck inside a fence type structure and started yelping really loud because it was wedged in really tight and was really hurting him. I ran to his aid and tried to free the paw and he bit me when i tried to touch his paw. My dad finally wire cut him out from a distance and the dog was fine after a while of limping around. To make a long story a little less longer, the dog is fine now and not hurt....but my question is, should i be worried about our relationship as far as hes concerned mentally now? I mean will he remember that he bit me and try to think it is ok or that he is above the pack compared to me? He is the sweetest dog, despite his breed reputation and would normally not hurt a fly. I never had a problem with him before or even after the incident which was about 2 days ago. I was wondering if what he did was completely normal? Thanks in advance for all the answers.

  1.  well your dog bit you because he was scared and in pain

  2. Completely normal. My Italian Greyhound got his leg stuck in his crate when coming out and when I tried to help him he bit my finger to the bone because he was in terrible pain. I was bleeding everywhere but as an electrician and even though I was in pain from the bite and had to open his mouth with my other hand I got a pair of wire cutters and cut the cage to free his leg. It's been 3 weeks and he has never nipped and just wants to play and lay on my lap. Even during play time he does not bit me etc... You and your dog will be fine. He was in pain and thought you were the one causing it. Dogs in pain can not evalute a situation like a human. Instead of reacting and running to your dog to free him/her first look at the situation I know it's heard if him/her is screaming in pain but it can save your hands.  You may have to use a towel or very thick protective gloves when going near a dogs face. If you can safely get a muzzle on him/her then do so and then help. I was stupid and ran right to his aid like any person who loves their pet does but looking back on it I know now what to do differently. Hope this helps!
