now it is numb. My dog had a seizure and ended up biting the middle section of my left ring finger pretty badly (this was Wed. Night) , breaking the skin in numerous places and causing swelling and bruising. It seems to be healing quite well, it no longer burns and the swelling is almost totally gone. He also ended up biting a few other fingers, but they didn't bruise or swell only this one.

My question is:::::: My finger is still oddly numb, I feel pain, but the finger feels like it has lost it's sense of touch. What do I do?

PS~ My dog is up to date on his shots and I cleansed the wound in peroxide.

  1. Go to the doctor.

  2. It could be a bruised nerve. If you haven't gone to a doctor, or don't plan too, then just give it some time. Soak it in cold water for about 20 minutes a day.

It sounds like you're taking care of it and keeping a close watch on it, so you should be able to tell whether or not you need professional medical attention. It should have improved within 3 days (which you said it has), but could take up to 2 weeks to feel normal. If it doesn't by then, you should see a doctor. Also, make sure you can still bend and move it.

If you need to help your dog through another seizure, try wrapping a towel around your hand first, or get yourself some heavy work gloves in case of such an emergency.

  3. It may be nothing to worry about but if you have a family doctor I would get checked out. It sounds like he may have damaged a nerve.

  4. He may have accidentally bit a nerve.

In any event, I would try to go to a health food store & buy topical Tea Tree Oil or Oil of Oregano..they may make it heal more deeply.

    Feel better.
