last night my boyfriend was cleaning out the shed and brinks (my dog) was in the back of the truck watching him. Brinks saw a squirel and jumped out of the truck and hit his leg on the shed breaking his femur. We took him to the emergency vet last night but they put him on morphine and sent him home till tomorrow morning when they are going to do surgery. My concern is he has not peed since last night at around 8 o clock. He has been eating and drinking and going number 2 but not peeing. The vet said it is ok, but i'm still worried. Should I be and is there anything i can do to make him pee. When i bring him outside i have to hold his back legs up with a towel and i think he feels uncomfortable with me right there. Thanks everyone. Please don't be mean to me i feel really bad about it even though i wasnt there when it happened and the surgery is going to be 4,000 dollars on top of the 300 i spent last night so please dont be mean ...i just need ur help.

  1. Aw, I'm sorry to hear your situation!  When my dog cut her back foot on glass and it was bandaged, it took her a while to use the bathroom.  I think she was uncomfortable with the big bandages, but after a day, she was going like normal.  Let your dog get used to the bandages and he will go when he really needs to.  I hope he heals well!

  2. I think your vet's probably right.  He's eating and drinking and pooping, he is probably uncomfortable with the towel situation.  Accidents happen.  You're being a good dog owner by taking care of him.

  3. Only your vet would know.  I wouldnt ask any medical information from these people on here.  Im sure that most of them are just guessing at answers.

  4. You should trust what your vet said. When my older dog was about 6 months old, she jumped out of my sons arms and broke her leg. They gave her meds and all that, but kept her at the vet hospital till they did the surgery. Don't worry. If your vet is a good vet like mine is, you will never even know that the dog had a broken leg in a few weeks. They put a pin in my dogs leg. The only reason you could tell she had surgery was because of where they shaved her leg, it took a while for the hair to grow back. When you bring him home, your vet will probably tell you this: don't let him run around or do any jumping for a few weeks. good luck with that. my dog went crazy when she got home. As for the not peeing, if the vet said not to worry, don't. Are you sure he hasn't done it in his bed? What you need to do is just calm down, and keep him comfortable till you get him back for the surgery. He is eating and drinking, which is great. So, don't worry. He will be fine after the vet fixes him up. Good luck.

  5. Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog.  I understand your concern.  He is probably uncomfortable because you are holding him with a towel.  I don't know what the answer is, but keep trying.  Poor guy!

  6. hey, the cost of owning animals eh!!  if the vet isnt worried, i wouldnt be either, he is probably in a bit of pain all over his rear end and doesnt really feel like peeing, plus he might be a bit nervous with you there, I would just make sure he is drinking and not worry too much about it, ring the vet if you get really worried but he as long as he seems ok in himself, try not to stress, mention it in the morning when you go, just to be on the safe side, sorry for your little doggy by the way, i hope he is ok xx

  7. I wouldn't worry about him not peeing.  When he can't hold it anymore he will let go.  I would be more concerned about raising $4000 for the surgery.  I can't see myself spending that much money on a dog unless he has some special value.  If he was an in demand stud dog it would be worth the surgery.  Otherwise I would consider other options.
