i took him to the park and it used to have water flowing through it but doesnt anymore because of water restrictions. theres still a little container with water in it in which pigeons bathe themselves in and drink out of. there was also some sort of yellow powder next to it and some of it was in it. i was keeping him away from it most of the time and when we were about to leave, he took 1-2 sips of it before i stopped it. will he be okay?

hes a jack russell

i gave him fresh water immediately when he came home

  1. I've seen dogs eat their own f***s, so the little guy should be fine.

  2. watch out for diarrhea in the next couple of days.  dogs can get Giardia from dirty water and will need antibiotics to cure it.

  3. Believe me dogs will eat and drink stuff much worse than dirty water . So don't worry. He will be fine, only worry about poison and stuff like anti freeze.

  4. he should be fine

  5. It depends on how much fresh water he drank. If he drank enough clean water he would have vomited the powder up if it was bad. I once had a puppy and it swallowed some glass cleaner and my brother gave it a good amount of milk to drink and it vomited it up.

If something like this happens to an adult dog I would give it enough fruit juice like Dole Juice or Juicy Juice to vomit it up instead of milk. According to a book I read milk isn't good for an adult dog, it makes the dog's stomach upset. Fruit juice is sweet and the dog may like it.

You will not know how it affects your dog.  Keep a close eye on your JRT and if you see vomiting and/or diarrhea pay close attention if it's accompanied by lethargy and/or fever.

Since you don't know what the powder was I would be more concerned about the problems it could present than the bird droppings.

But in case you were not aware, those bird droppings can create problems of their own.  Giarddia is frequently seen in places where there are bird droppings.  And some dogs have a taste for bird droppings, and every other dropping.

Just be aware of any change in the dogs behavior.

Fresh water and a meal that will be easy on the tummy might even aide in preventing loose stools.
