My dog got sprayed by a skunk, what do I do?

So I let my dog out to pee before I was going to bed. He runs in a bush and got sprayed by a skunk. I woke up my Mom and Dad and of course my dad just went back to bed. We didn't have any tomato juice so my mom and I used Ketchup. We lathered it on and hosed him down with water repeatedly. Then walked him around the neighborhood to air and dry. Right now he is sitting in his cage with food and water because we can't let him roam around and rub his smell on everything. And now I have a pink/ red dog :] Any other tips on what I could possibly do tomorrow? How long will he be smelly? Was it okay to use ketchup instead of tomato juice?

U DID GOOD TO BATH HIM, BUT NOT WITH KETCHUP, CAUSE IT MAY CONTAINS CHEMICALS THAT MAAY DAMAGE THE DOGS SKIN OR THE DOG ITSELF!!! WHAT U CAN DO IS GIVE HIM A BATH WITH HIS NORMAL SHAMPOO TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITIES OF THE KETCHHUP. GO TO THE MART AND BUY THE TOMATOE JUICE, IF IT DOESNT WORKS, TRY THE SHAMPOO DE- SKUNK!!!

ALSO, TAKE THE DOG OUTSIDE THE CAGE 4 A WHILE AND PLAY WITH HIM, CAUSE HE MIGTH THINK THAT HE DID SOMETHING BAD OR THAT UR MAD AT HIM!!!^_^

1 Qt 3% hydrogen peroxide

1/4 cup baking soda

1 tsp. liquid soap  (dish soap is fine)

mix it up, put it on the dog, rinse it off

You can double the recipe if you have a larger dog

Bonus:  this will probably remove the pink color your dog has been stained, too  :o)

DONT bathe your dog in tomsto juice that is the worst thing to do it makes the smell so much worse!!

lol. I would have never thought of using ketchup... it's probably not going to hurt him.

Go to the Pet store and get a shampoo called de-skunk

You poor thing!! Skunk smell is horrible and hard to get rid of. Tomato juice is more concentrated than ketchup. When our dog was sprayed we also used vinegar to try and get rid of the odor. Get tomato juice tomorrow and let it set for at least 20-30 minutes before rinsing it off. Then use a deodorizer shampoo.
