  1. If it persists and gets red use sulfidone to stop it its avaliable at any pet store

  2. If it is irritated they will l**k / chew and you don't want them to ingest any poison / chemical from Wal-mart that could make them sicker...

If you are looking for organic / homeopathic (natural) pet products go to www.sandycreeksoap.etsy.com they’re awesome! They have an essential oil spray (in tons of scents - you pick) for deodorizing, a special "critter crazy" spray to keep fleas off with citronella and lemon grass, etc. in it - and special bar soaps for pets too. Some with oatmeal for soothing skin conditions, some with essential oils like citronella for keeping off the fleas, etc. PS - If you are looking for other "handmade" pet stuff, check out www.thegreenbone.etsy.com also has organic pet TREATS! YUM

  3. are they scabs right above his tail on his back?  if so, food allergies.  if your dog has allergies, there is no way to CURE it.  when people have allergies are they CURED and they never come back? maybe a better food to calm them but most likely it willl be a lifelong thing.

  4. Most of the time, chewing at the skin on the back (just above the tail area) leads one to look for fleas...this is considered the hot zone for flea activity.  If you dog has chewed the area raw, is oozing and has an odor  it has advanced into what is called a "hot spot" or moist dermatitis ( a major skin infection, pyoderma it is called).  You will need to see the vet to care for this infection properly.....they will shave the area around the lesion.  Then clean the wound and perhaps apply a medication.  They will dispense oral antibiotics that you will give for the next couple of weeks.....they may or may not have you cleaning the wound at home and be applying ointment or sprays.   There can be several reasons for the hot spot to have started.  Usually it is the trauma from the dogs mouth chewing on the skin, being allergic to food, inhalant allergies like people and fleas.  Easiest thing to do is check your pet for fleas and treat your pet and your house.  Follow the instructions from you vet to clear up the pyoderma.    BTW, you can't cure food allergies, you can control them by changing the food you feed.  But beware, allergy prone animals usually develop more. Oh,  and one more thing, flies  love to lay their eggs in the sticky area of the hot spot, becareful you don't end up with maggots in this wound.

  5. Yes what he has is called a hot spot .... they bite it until their hair falls out ...your in luck there is a cure give maxxy a bath first and then there is a med called hot spots at wal-mart or pet supplies plus and it really helps!!

  6. Hot-spots are easily treatable with medication vets can offer. However, it could also be mange, so you might want to get it looked at by a professional.
