My dog is 1 year old. For the past 2 days he has not been his usual happy self. He has been sick a couple of times and is not eating at all (except from trying to eat some grass outside). He has had quite bad diarrhoea. I called the vets today to ask for some advice and they told me they couldn't give me any without seeing him 1st,i then explained that i don't get paid until friday and if i brought him in then could i pay the vets fee's on friday and they said no,so i have no option but to ask for advice on here until then. I have tried feeding him some boiled rice and boiled fish as i was told that this would be light on his stomach but he just isn't interested. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. take him to the vet.......

  2. I was just about to answer this one - but see you have been able to access the money!  Poor attitude on the part of the vet I have to say - usually they will treat, and come to an arrangement later - but Vet Receptionists are notorious for blocking.  Usually the vet will be quite happy to sort the financial side out.  You could leave a cheque dated Friday, for example.  I've never had a problem with payment, provided you are up front with the vet.  So don't go via the Receptionist next time.  Just book the appointment, and sort out the payment later .......

Hope this has a good outcome.

  3. He needs to be seen. Dogs can become dehydrated easily.  he may have gotten something that is making him sick, or it could bad dog food, food poisoning...or something only a vet can cure.  Please take him somewhere...an emergency vet, then after he is seen, explain that you won't get paid until Friday. Of course, if he needs meds, you won't be able to get them. Is there someone that can go with you and cover the costs? Then you can repay them on Friday? GL!

  4. Feed him nothing at all for 24 hours. Make sure he is drinking though or he will dehydrate. After 24 hours start giving him little bits of boiled chicken breast and rice. If his stomach gets upset again you will have to put the vet visit on a credit card or borrow the money to take him to the vet sooner.

  5. that's must be very frustrating, try using your credit card, or borrow some money of someone then pay it back at the end of the week?

keep looking on the internet at vet sites, or any site that tells you things about sick pets!

  6. borrow money off a relative, or use your visa? and just go today. or find a more sympathetic vet in yellow pages who will bill you .

or  if you know anyone on benefit, or a pensioners ie a neighbour, mum, etc ask them to do a massive favour, go into the pdsa and they get him treated free if they kid on the dog is their own!

if he has refused all food and he hasnt drank back the water hes lost,  he risks dehydration and so forth, and he needs seen urgently before a further 48hrs pass. and he could have a fit through lack of water and deteriorate rapidly.

  7. right from the sounds of it your Dog has a bad stomach

1st off ... let him eat the grass!

dogs do this when they need to throw up

to get any bad stuff from their tummy up

so it is actually a good thing.

make sure you keep him hydrated, if he wont drink then try just rubbing some water on his lips and nose to try give him some fluids.

try giving him lean meat rather then dog food as the additives could make him feel more ill

and DO NOT GIVE HIM WET FOOD

this is VERY bad for your dogs teeth and digestive system anyway

if you don't give him wet food then ignore me

but if you do stop feeding that rubbish to your dog!

apart from doing little things like this there is nothing you can do to actually make him better without tablets from the vet im afraid

so you will have to wait till then.

    hope he gets better soon.

    peace x

  8. Do you have any house plants that he might have been chewing on? Make sure he gets enough to drink at least until it goes over.

  9. Bring him to the vet and say nothing about you having no cash, I am sure they will treat him.
