My dog has some kind of skin condition on her belly and armpits. It's really red and it appears to spread?

I've taken her to the vet in the past and the medication they prescribed got rid of it, but I don't have that kind of money right now. Is there anything I can do to cure this at home. I've read on here about people using benadryl, will that work for my dog (yellow lab mix)?

  1. You can use benadryl but make sure you just call your vet to see how much you can give your dog. Over dosing medications can really hurt your  dog so better safe than sorry call your vet and ask how much to give your dog. It won't hurt to call your vet. Good Luck!

  2. I don't recommend this but, do you remember the name of the medicine that he got the last time? They could have it at the pet store in the medicine section. That would save you the vet bill. I don't recommend benadryl.

  3. she might have gotten into something she is allergic too.. giving her a bath in oatmeal shampoo will help if she itches.. and a benedryl will help take the rash away.. depending on how big she is.. start with only half the pill (like in the am) and if it is not better by dinner time.. give her the other half a pill.

Good Luck.. this happens with my boxer too.. gets rashes all the time.

  4. Someone else in here has the same problem-It could be your pets thyroid. The dog needs a blood test by your vet and if it comes back a problem , then they will give medication to clear up the scabs and then put them on a thyroid medication.

  5. Hello,

You could try  an antibiotic ointment to sooth it...You could try an ointment like Bag Balm....

First I think you should contact the vet you took her to before and ask about the Benadryl.  My friend has a Pug with allergies and she gives her a small dose of Benadryl BUT PLEASE ask your vet first.

I hope this is helpful and I hope your dog gets better!!

  6. I really do think you should ring the vet and explain your circumstances.  He/she may be ok with giving you a prescription for the medication you had last time and you can then purchase this medication on line which will be much cheaper.

Alternatively, if you are on benefits you could enquire at the Blue Cross or RSPCA and see if they will help you out.
