Question:

My dog has started peeing on the carpet? He's 2 & this behavior is new. What to do?

I should add this, as it is very important - I'm divorcing my abusive husband, so our lives have been turned upside down, and also my new place has a carpeted bedroom, which is where he loves to pee. Our old place didn't have carpet.

What can I do? Take him out more? Close the door to the bedroom? Have him trained?

Also, I swear the bedroom smells like stale urine now. Not cool. What can I do about that? I sopped up the mess as I saw them, them scrubbed the area with hot water & soap, then sopped that up, then sprayed with Febreeze. I don't want a nasty pee room & that's what I'm on the way to having.

I'm sure he's just reacting to his environment change....so what can I do to help him and save my bedroom?

  1. lol your doing good , but he is a MALE dog hint hint once they reach this age they like to do what they call "marking there territory. Its simple he needs a little miss, maybe u should set up a play date with a female dog owner:] hope this helps

  2. Keep him out of your room.  He may be thinking that he's the new man in your life.   Do take him for walks more where you lead and he heels or follows.

I would get the enzyme based urine cleaner and use it according to the directions.  It may take several uses to get rid of the smell.

  3. i AM SURE HE IS WONDERFUL AND THAT THE STRESS IS GETTING TO BOTH OF YOU. kEEP THE BEDROOM DOOR CLOSED FOR NOW GET ODA BAN OR SOMETHING FROM A PET STORE TO CLEAN WITH SO SMELL IS REDUCED.gIVE HIM ATTENTION AS YOU CAN AND GOOD FOR YOU FOR BEING ABLE TO GO, BE SAFE..cAN NEVER HURT TO GET HIM OUT A BIT MORE INCASE HE NEEDS IT.

  4. I would say this is just emotional behavior, but you should do a few things.  First since he is full grown now, get him fixed if you have not done so already.  Male dogs mark their territory and he is claiming that spot as his.  He is also marking it as a sign that he is the boss of you now instead of the husband, so you are going to want to try to get this to stop as soon as possible.  I would try having a carpet professional come in and clean the carpet for you and also tell him NO in a loud firm voice when he does this, then take him right outside.  You might want to get a cage for him temporarily too.  You can keep it in your room, but until he calms down and gets used to the new situation, it will keep the carpets clean.  He is like a child wondering where his dad is and needs you to reinforce that you are there for him and that everything will be fine.  If it continues after a week or so you might want to get a behavior trainer to evaluate him.

  5. They make doggie pads that you can buy in the pet dept of Walmart or in a pet store. They have some kind of scent attraction so dogs will use them. Buy some of them and put one somewhere else so that he'll use it instead and keep the bedroom door closed.  There's also some spray stuff in the pet section called Pet Keep Away that you spray on an area they've used, and it's supposed to keep them from going there.
