  1. No, or else you would have been told that alternative by the vet silly!

Peticure DOESNT WORK its the same thing as clipping but shaving instead! & the shaving DOESNT work it just hardly grinds! trust me do not get that!

  2. you can have them pulled the vet will do it

  3. hi

    I have a great trick

    it involves 2 people

get treats and toys and food and occupied his mind

it always works for my dogs

you could also ask your vet for tips

    and you could look online

    I hope i helped

  4. running around on concrete helps to file them down and keep them reasonably short

you could also try using your dremel (if you have one) or getting one of those peticure or a similar type of trimmer

  5. Honestly... $ 12 is a deal... the vets around here charge $16-20...

    Anyhow...

    try an emery board

    try a nail file

    try a "dremmel"

try a dog groomer (they normally charge less than a vet but I don't know in your area)

3 of 4 of my dogs used to HATE it...but I persevered (even before I became a groomer 5 years ago)...I just kept trying with treats and love and affection...

Now, I tell them "nail time"..."who's first?" and the literally line up and let me do them. THey know they gert a GREAT treat when they are done...not just some cookie...usually a piece of roast beef or chicken or a pig's ear...

    Good luck

  6. My dog is the same. He is part pug and pugs hate getting nails trimmed. One thing our vet said is to kind of drug them...it's safe and it just makes them more calm and tired. We tried it and it didn't work. But maybe it will for you! Go to your vet and ask.

Good luck. (We still haven't gotten my dogs nails trimmed and it's been a year...we don't know what to do either!)

  7. You have to work up to it.

    Clipper...Treat

    repeat

    Clipper touches feet...treat

    repeat

    Clipper pretends to cut claw...treat

    repeat

    Clipper puts pressure on claw...treat

    Repeat

  8. At the pet store I work at they charge $10. So I would call around as far as price goes.

For the hating part, depending on ow she acts taking her somewhere else other than where he gets shots may help. There are also calming pills for dogs that are very common.

  9. Do them yourself..

Buy a proper nail clipper and clip only one or two nails at a time.

Just take a little bit off,,

Make it a simple solution rather than going for the full clip, that may be disturbing for your dog..

She'll soon become more accustomed to you doing it, rather than taking her to the vet.

    Good luck

  10. I had this issue with my first Rottie. I didn't start her out as young as I should have, and at the time I never really clipped nails... so of coarse, when I clipped her nails, I quicked her. Which made the situation worse. I tried EVERYTHING....! I tried clipping a nail then giving her a treat, but the problem was, she kicked like a mule, so end result I would treat her for kicking, pulling away, which caused me to clip more than I wanted. I tried standing next to her and picking up each paw, but this resulted in her pulling away and me wrestling with her and it was a terrible experience.

So, finally, I rolled her over on her back, gave her a belly rub. I put her head in my lap and just calmly grabbed each paw and clipped her nails. I thought it was a miracle! She didn't move, didn't kick, didn't pull away. Just lay there calmly. After that I gave her her favorite treat.... a piece of bread and a belly rub.

And now, when she sees the clippers in my hand, she just rolls over, even though she hardly ever gets bread afterwords.

I use that time to give her a massage, rub her belly, touch her feet a lot. Love on her. She likes her nails trimmed now.

You do what makes you comfortable, but if your not comfortable trimming the nails, just have the vet or groomer do it, you can really hurt or kill a dog by trimming the nails too short.

  11. try the Peticure  http://www.peticure-grooming.com/Peticur...

It files their nails down instead of clipping them

  12. If you clip carefully and trim a nail, then give a favorite treat  <I used bits of chicken for my dogs>, the dog will get to accept the trimming unless you cut the nail too short and hurt it.

  13. You take her on walks more frequently. That should make her nails blunt but not cut them.

  14. Take her for runs on the road or some concrete to wear them down?  I know the vet hosp in PetSmart has a pill that you can give your dog to chill them out so you can cut their nails, too.  Good Luck!

  15. I have a nervous, sensitive dog she hates her paws being touched and nails being clipped. I recently purchased the Peticure and it's worked out really well it doesnt freak her out. Try rubbing her tummy and giving her a back massage before hand.

    Good luck!

  16. My dog is the same way and she gets her done any way by me my dog's nails need to be done like every 2 weeks and I will not pay my vet $7 a time and drive 45mins each way so I just do it myself with some help from mom or dad and a muzzle so she can't bite me or them your dog will get over it mine does every time.

  17. There was a nail trimmer advertised on TV. It was for pets called "Peticure". It looks very safe.

  18. bring her to the vet and they will sedate her and cit her nails trhen you should be all set. or you can get hat new thing that they have out on that info commercial.

  19. i bought a dremmel like tool from petedge.com for 19.99. i just used it on both my dogs yesterday, and it is awesome. filed the nails down quicker than anything!!! and the dogs didn't mind it at all. love it!!!
