My dog is a golden retriever and has been with us for 6 years. A month ago we let the dog out in our farm like we normally do and he came back in the evening limping slightly on right leg. Me and my hubby figured he just sprained it or something because he gets rambunctious and it was gone in a few days so we thought nothing of it.

Now he's acting really strange around us. Sometimes he's really docile and then sometimes he gets crazy like chewing on his own leg. When he's docile he has problems moving around and has his mouth open all the time so all this spit comes off. When he gets crazy he trys to attack us and has even bitten me a few times so hard it has even drawn blood!

We didn't get him vaccinated (yes, I know we should have) so I don't know whats wrong with him. I don't wanna take him to the vet because he's getting too violent to get into the car.

Does anyone know whats wrong with my dog?

  1. He's a mysterious fictional rabid dog.

  2. probably rabies fleas etc. nothing you can do but go to vet and have himn vaccinated. if you can't get him in the car, just call the pound for help.

  3. sounds like he has rabies, and if he does, NO, THERE IS NO CURE. the best thing you can do for him now is to put him to sleep so he doesn't suffer any more then he already has.  and you need to get yourself checked out ASAP, because of him biting you. good luck.

  4. He might have been bitten by an animal that had rabies. You need to have a vet check him out immediately.

  5. We can't possibly know exactly what is wrong with your dog, but by the sound of this, you need to take him to the vet and right away.  Something has really gone wrong with him for him to change like this.  ??And yes, it could be rabies.  Do you have any idea how painful the treatment is for humans that are subjected to rabies?  Why on God's green earth are you waiting?

Add: Probably not in time to save your dog IF he has rabies.  Sorry.  Vet's are required by law to put them down and ship the head  (brain) to one of the states vet labs to be sure.

Further you are responsible for everyone around you with this dog maybe or may not having rabies.  Take the dog to the vet and tell him before he examines the dog what may or may not be happening so he doesn't bite the vet for crying out loud.

The time to save your dog was at 12 to 14 weeks when the rabies vaccines are given by the vet.

  6. he probably got bit by a snake or spider or other poisonous thing. get a muzzle and put it on him when he is calm then take him to the vet.

  7. Has your dog had rabies shots??

Maybe he was bitten by another animal but you missed seeing the bite.

Please do your dog a favor and somehow entice him into a crate with a treat and take him to the vet.  From there, the vet can deal with the agressiveness and give you a diagnosis.

  8. This could be really serious.  Do you mean he's never been vaccinated for rabies?  Did you check to see if the leg he's limping on had a bite mark on it at all?  Rabies does not develop overnight, it can take between 3 weeks to 6 months to incubate to the point that serious symptoms are noted.

You need to get him to a vet right away.  If there is any possibility he was bitten by a rabid animal, he can transmit rabies to you if he has bitten you.

If not rabies, there are any number of things causing the limp.  Only a vet can tell you what's wrong with your dog, but you should take him in ASAP.

    add:

If he has rabies, no there is nothing you can do for him.  At this point if he's bitten you & drawn blood, your main concern is making sure you don't die of rabies.

and looking at your previous questions, somehow I doubt this is a real question.  You say in posts you're a boy, some a girl, and your profile says " I'm 27 years old and pretty much a jack of all trades (and a master of none). I've pretty much been everything once from doctor, IT tech help, automacanic and various other small jobs with friends. I got my computer science 3 degree in college and my Phd in University so if you wanna know about awesome pranks I can help you :)"

  9. No i don't know but have you considered calling the vet maybe he/she can come to your place

  10. well.it is a little strange your dog is doing this.but my dog did that aswell obviously not all the biting and things but he started limping and  it was over in a few days.i thought nothing of it too.and i didnt and nothing happened after that.I would suggest a vet .but if he is acting too violent look up the yellow pages to get  someone to come and get yoiur dog like animal petrol and get them to take him/her to the vet if possible.it might be a little much but if you love your dog just as much i did you would do it.i know im not much help but Good Luck!

  11. Muzzle him or crate him and get him to the vet.  You have no other options.

    ADD:

No, sadly there is nothing you can do to save your dog if he has rabies.

***You have a husband, kids and a 9 inch p***s.  Something tells me you are full of boloney.

  12. I hate to say this but your dog may be rabid.  Symptoms usually develop between 20 and 60 days after exposure. Rabid animals may become aggressive, combative, and highly sensitive to touch and other kinds of stimulation. And they can be vicious. This is the "furious" form of rabies, the kind traditionally associated with mad dogs.   If you never had your dog vaccinated against the rabies virus and he is free roaming in the country, it is very possible he could have been bitten by a rabid wild animal.  Since he bit you, you should get to the hospital and start taking the rabies shots.  Without taking him to the vet for a check up it's just a guessing game as to what is causing the behavior change.

  13. put him in a crate and and take him to the vet
