My dog is all the sudden getting up close and personal with all the pillow in my house?

I am taking him to the vet but I can't get him in for another week since it's not an emergency. But he is going to down humping all my pillows and yes he finishes. He's an old rescue dog so he is anywhere between 12-16 years old. He is not fixed because they were afraid that if they put him under- he might not wake back up. I'll see what this new vet says about it. But all the sudden it's like he is completely nuts- he is humping everything, l*****g the floor all the time, crying and whining and looking for something he can't find. It's like all the sudden-he started doing all this. Could something health related cause all this crazy behavior changes? Oh and he is marking in the house on top of it. We even ask around if anyone has a dog in heat and we can't figure out what is making him go nuts.

  1. Maybe he's starting to lose his mind? Or maybe there is a stray dog in heat in the area.

  2. He is too old to be fixed and honestly it wont change the habits he already has. (you can teach an old dog new tricks, but he wont forget the old ones-HA) He may smell another animal in or around the home. Maybe there has been a change in the home that has caused him to react. As far as smelling a female in heat, male dogs can smell a female up to 5 Miles Away....good luck :-)

  3. lol thats so funny- maybe he sees the end is near and needs to get some action in before his time comes lol. I knew a cat that used to do that actually... i never heard of anything medically wrong with it, unless its some kind of dementia

  4. Sounds like  you do need a vet.  This sudden and drastic change in behavior needs to be seen by a professional.

  5. Get a female dog,   set her in the back yard,  let ole yeller work his magic on her (2 minutes) . And im sure your problems wll be solved

  6. It is not real common, but sometimes an un neutered dog will be "turned on" by the lingering odor of a human's menstruation and/or other "deposit' on the bed.

I don't think this indicates a physical problem, but having him seen by the Vet is a good decision.  It is my understanding that there is a hormonal injection the Vet can give.  It won't Neuter him, but it is supposed to decrease the production of male hormones.

  7. geez get em a blow up

    doll or somehin...lol
