Question:

My dog is allergic to commerical fertilizer?

He is either allergic to it or has bad side effects with it. He has blood in his stools and gags when I use the granuals. Is there a home remidy I can use on my lawn?

  1. Dear, your dog is NOT allergic to the fertilizer granules - HE'S BEING POISONED. Pets and children are not supposed to be allowed on the lawn for 24 - 48 hours after application. I'm also willing to bet you are using too much in one application.

    Go to your local garden center or nursery and ask about organic fertilizers.

    AND GET YOUR DOG TO THE VET. BLOOD IN THE STOOLS AND GAGGING ARE EMERGENCIES.

There are organic fertilizers, they are less effective and more expensive but they are out there.  Scotts makes organic fertilizers.  Also a good organic form of weed control is corn gluten meal.  A thing to remember though about chemical fertilizers is that the pets have to remain off the lawn until they are soaked into the ground.  That does not occur until a deep watering by a sprinkler or a rainstorm.  You are told to remain off the lawn for 24 hours but it should be until a good rainstorm to be safe.
