My dog is having a false pregnancy, should I have her spayed?

I have a full blooded boxer and I breed her with another full blooded boxer the second time she came in heat, and we thought that she was going to have puppys but we found out yesterday that she is having a false pregnancy and I took her to two different vets and one of them said to have her spayed and the other said not to have her spayed. I was just wondering if she is more likely to have another false pregnancy if I breed her again? (please no comments from people that think all dogs should be spayed)

  1. yes spay her it is more likely she will have problems if you do not

  2. A few years ago I had a german shepherd and tried to get her bred but she had a false pregnancy so I had her spayed. Good thing because she had a tumor and could have died. Just something to have checked.

  3. she is more likely to have false pregnancies, its also very hard on her system, she is also too young to be having puppies...second heat places her aroudn 1 yr old, she should be 1 1/2-2 yrs old before even attempting to whelp a litter.

breeding requires alot of knowledge, get your girl spayed and dont try and breed anymore untill youve spent a few good solid years with a breeder who shows and health tests their dogs.

  4. Then don't ask our opinion.

  5. do you really want to put your dog through this again?

    all dogs should be spayed.

  6. No! don't spay ur poor dog,i mean put yourself in her place would u like ur sexual organs messed with? i thought not, if u think this will happen again then just don't breed her I'm sorry if u don't agree with me but u shouldn't mess with mother nature

  7. She's obviously having trouble conceiving.. it's not unlikely even if she did get pregnant, she'd have a hard time carrying to term.  This doesn't label her as good breeding stock.

If one vet (a doctor, who's advice shouldn't be taken lightly), recommends having her spayed, for her own safety, I think you should consider their advice.

The safety of your female should come first, even if not all vets agree on the course of action.

  8. I also have a Boxer, and she is going through the same thing right now. We were planning on breeding her, but because of this we have decided to get her fixed. I've done lots of research on it the past few days, and I would definitely say that you might want to strongly consider getting her spayed. Not only is a false pregnancy traumatic for the dog physically, but it is also traumatic emotionally. Another thing to keep in mind, if you do decide to try and breed her again, the chances of her and the puppies staying healthy might not be very good. A false pregnancy can effect their uterus and other parts of their bodies. Each dog is different though, so do some research and maybe take her to the vet and see what they think. Whatever you decide to do though, a false pregnancy is hard on a dog, so be extra loving with her for the next few weeks!!

  9. I would try at least one more time before spaying her

(but for the record, I am one of those people that thinks all dogs should be spayed)

  10. Dogs that exhibit one false pregnancy are likely to have more false pregnancies.  Some breeders will automatically spay dogs if they do have a false pregnancy because of the possibility of recurrence.
