Of course the vet's office is closed for a holiday weekend and they didn't answer the "emergency number". Hoping they call me soon but until then, he really seems to be in a lot of pain. It seems like his back legs or maybe even lower back area. He's an eleven year old shih tzu/poodle mix. I gave him a couple baby aspirin but I have no idea what else to do.

  1. I am not sure about any meds, but maybe a warm compress to help the pain? I am so sorry he isnt feeling well, always so sad when our babies are not well.. GOOD LUCK

  2. It's unfortunate that you can't get through to your vet.  Hopefully they will call you back soon.  The vet is really the only one who will be ablel to diagnose and treat your dogs pain.  People on here can only guess, and you can do that yourself.

  3. Did you try massaging the dog's legs?

  4. She may have hurt her back, it could be arthritis or a disc problem my dog has both. She has meds when it gets bad.  Don't give him anymore aspirin for awhile.  1 aspirin is enough.  When I had back pain I preferred Ice instead of heat. Which ever be sure not to leave it long.  I sure hope the Emergency vet call you back.  Just keep him quiet and calm. Good Luck and I hope he feels better soon. This kinda stuff always happens before a holiday wkend.

  5. Just give her a half tablet, it works and last for hours. Then try to take her to other vets.

Old dogs usually suffer hip dysplasia or degenerative joint disease, it leads to lameness or paralysis. My 12yrs dachshund have suffered this and he has to use a supporting cart now.

So, timely medical treatment is very necessary.
