Ughhh my 8 month old pug just came into heat for the first time. We are not prepared for this at all. Does anyone know how long it will last? How often does it happen? What can I do about the mess? I tried cutting a tail hole in infant diapers but they just wiggle right off when she moves. Is there something special I can buy?

  1. A spay.

Edit: Instead of backyard breeding and taking homes away from shelter animals with poorly bred dogs, why don't you just spay her? It's far healthier for her to be spayed.

  2. Spay her and all the problems will go away.

  3. PetSmart or Petco carry doggie diapers.

Call your vet and ask them how long this will last & then immediately make an appointment for the dog to be fixed.

Unless you plan on breeding this pup, spaying is the way to go!

    Good Luck!

  4. the heat cycle for every dog is different. but they usually last 21 days  some of them bleed the whole 21 days and some of them don't.your dog will go into heat every six months. most female dogs are going to clean that area very well. but some of them don't i would suggest getting a crate to keep her in while your gone. so no un wanted males get her and so she don't leave spots. they do sell dogie diapers for females in heat try this web page if you want to buy some on-line. http://www.seniorpetproducts.com/index.p...

  5. when this started happening with my dog she left a huge mess everywhere, but soon after she began cleaning herself, so I was never really able to tell how long it lasted or how bad the bleading was.

  6. Unless you are planning on breeding her, I would look into having her spayed. Otherwise you will be cleaning up messes every time she goes into heat. some people put a  cone thing around the neck which limits the dog from biting and tearing the diaper off.

  7. Get her spayed!

Is she a good representative of the breed...will you

have her tested for the health issues that are common

    to Pugs...NOT CHEAP...

Are you prepared for the possibilty of losing her...

Most pugs are delivered by C-section and often

some or all the pups are lost including mom...

If you lose mom are you prepared for taking care

    of pups 24/7...

Do you have a whelping box, heating lamp, emergency

materials should you have a fading pup or shocky

    mom...

Are you also prepared to look for a top stud

who genetically would be a good match with

    your *****...

Good studs do not come cheaply as well the

owners may not breed to females who do not

have their championship, have not been

tested for transmittable diseases or do not

meet the conformation standards...it will likely

    be all of the above...

There is also the cost of travelling to the

stud or having s***n shipped and there

is no guarantee that she will catch...

And lastly are you willing to take back

any pup regardless of the reason or

    age...

You brought the pups into the world

are you going to be responsible for them?

  8. the heat cycle will last about 3 weeks.  Dogs typically cycle every 6 months..  however some may cycle as short as 4 months, and some may cycle every 12-14 months!

They do make panties for dogs.. you can get them at the petshop and put a maxi pad in them.

Keep her away from ALL males!  Do not leave her outside unattended, not even in a fenced yard!

When she's out of her heat cycle, you can get her spayed and you wont have to deal with it again!

  9. if u go to a pet store they can help u but for now u can put a diaper on him cut a tail hole and duck tape it on and they are in heat for about 3 weeks

  10. buy a spay

  11. You have to put her outside but you have to have a fence.  If you take her for a walk be careful with other dog.  Since they smell from far away.  You can also call a vet to see if she can be fixed.  My sister adopted one and she fixed while she was bleeding, but I will be back to you tomorrow, since I have  a friend in Sarasota that has 2 dogs.

I don't know if you can put her a diaper and make a hole and pull the tail out, so she would not mess your house.

God bless you and her.  Ga

  12. My dog was in heat and bleeding for 3 weeks her first time. We bought her some doggie diapers from Petsmart. They probably would have worked well, but she was so terrified every time we put one on her, all she did was stand there for an hour and not move. The only thing we could do was come behind her when she would bleed on the floor with a spray bottle of water and dawn dish soap. After she was done with her cycle, we went to Home Depot and rented a rug doctor.

  13. It shouldn't last more than a week. Keep it locked up and away from all other dogs and call a Vet now to book it in to be spayed as soon as she comes off heat. This is to prevent many more unwanted puppies and is a big part of responsible pet ownership.

  14. You can try normal women's underwear and pad a pad in it.  It will look funny and likely be very uncomfortable for your dog.  You can also buy stuff for this problem at any good pet store.  You are lucky she's only gone into heat now.  Most dogs go into heat at about 6 months.  I highly recommend you get your pug fixed.  The cycle could last up to a week and reoccur monthly (in some dogs).  And don't let her outside unsupervised.  Any unneutered male in the area will smell her and want to mate.  These dogs can become quite aggressive, so beware.

  15. usually she'll bleed for 2 weeks - diapers are the only solution for the mess - long term, you should have her spayed!

  16. Buy a spay <--- exactly right.

Unfortunately, spaying after the first heat does not reduce the chances of breast cancer at all. But it cuts the chances of a uterine infection by 100%.

  17. spay.

lasts a lifetime. protects your dog and your sanity.
