My dog is not using its right hind leg.?

My dog is a medium sized mutt and has been walking only using her 2 front legs and its left hind leg, she will keep the right hind leg up when she walks. She does not seem to be in any pain or discomfort and she is just as hyper and happy as ever. The vet has determined through x-rays and a blood test, that there are no fractures or anything out of the ordinary. Anti-inflamatory and antibiotics have not helped either. The vet has also looked over every part of the leg and has not been able to find any problems, the range of motion is good too, however the dog just won't use it. Any ideas on what we should do next and how we can get her to use it again? Thank you.

  1. how about getting your dog her favorite treat. hold it a bit on top of her head. let her stand up on her hind legs like she's begging you. my dogs do that all the time. if i get their favorite food and hold it up high, chubby would jump to catch the food in my hand.

try using that trick. it works everytime with my dogs.

  2. did you or someone step on your dog.  feel its leg and see if you can get the dog to yelp as you squeeze each part of it.  if it doesn't do anything then pull the hind leg up and back and place your hand on the dogs rump and pull back on the leg gently to see if the dog yelps then.  if the dog bites yelps or pulls away it could be broken... if nothing happens its probalby just asleep.

  3. you should take her to a pet clinic because she may have the beggining of bad bones and could not be good for future activities, please take your dog to a clinic soon before it is to late, please.

  4. i watch this tv show called "The Dog Whisperer" he can make dogs do anything. he is the master

  5. would it be possible to immobilize her "good" leg? Maybe by doing that it would force her to use her leg. I wouldn't have recommended it you hadn't take all the precautions and had her checked.

    Good Luck

  6. That's a tough one... You know, I would try getting the dog to jump up on two legs. It might seem cruel, but raise his/her food dish and see what she does. If she, without pain, seems to be able to reach it, it's probably just the dogs preference.

  7. My dog has a similar problem. If your dog is left in your backyard, and your backyard is cement, your dog may be feeling some pressure on it's feet, causing it to lift the aching foot up (however putting more pressure on the other feet). But yeah, I'm befuddled at this behavior too lol. But I think too much pressure on one foot could be causing this, like if you run barefoot on the road for thirty minutes, I'm sure you'd rather walk on your hands for a while lol.

  8. put the dog on some slippery ice on a snowy day, when it starts slipping it will try to gain control by using ALL the legs, I mean think about it, when we fall on ice, we know that using our arms and legs at once would help us from slipping but we dont do that so we fall anyway

  9. he might be hurt.. like broken leg.. go get it checked
