My dog is really sick, any ideas as to what he might have?

He's been vomiting, not eating, sleeping in my bathtub, and losing weight for about four days. His eyes are kind of watery looking. I don't really think he's been pooping. I took him to the vet, but his vet is a little crazy, he like sniffed the thermometer right after he took it out of my dogs butt. And he was prodding at my dogs butt without gloves, and was then touching everything with dirty hands. He said the dog might have parvovirus, or an intestinal block or some sort. Any ideas?!

  1. Take him to a real vet.

  2. Probably PARVO, which can be DEADLY! GET HIM TO A DIFFERENT VET IMMEDIATELY AND GET HIM ON SOME FLUIDS AND MEDS AT THE LEAST!

  3. Try to give to your dog, 3 Tabs. of Flex Oil + 20 drops of Wild Oregano Oil, daily.

You can mix the oil with yogurt 0% fats (for every 1 Tbs. oil add 2 Tabs. yogurt fats free). If he refuses, put few drops on his paws, so he will l**k them.

  4. I'm just going to emphasize what everyone else has said - your dog needs to get to another vet right away.  Parvo is definitely a possibility from the sound of your dog's symptoms, but then again, you won't know for sure until he sees a vet (a vet that is not the one you took him to before).  Oftentimes dogs with Parvo have symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, and sometimes discharge from the eyes and/or nose (and perhaps the watery look in his eyes could be part of that).  Even if it isn't Parvo, your dog needs a vet.  Four days of vomiting and losing weight does some terrible damage to a dog, so please take your dog to a different vet...

    Best wishes!

***Edit: In response to your additional details...First of all, while it is rare, it is still possible for older dogs to get Parvo (especially if something else is going on with the dog that makes it weaker, then the dog is more vulnerable).  But, it is also likely that is is not Parvo.  That's all the more reason that I suggest you take your dog to another vet in order for you to figure out what is ailing your dog.  It could be a number of things - your dog could have an intestinal blockage, some type of parasite/worms, a stomach/internal illness, or any number of things.  Taking your dog to a vet will allow a proper diagnosis, and will therefore allow your dog to get the proper treatment that will help him.

I hope your dog gets well soon.

  5. If you don't think the vet helps, you should take him to another vet.  We cannot diagnose your dog for you here.  Good luck and hope your dog will be fine.

  6. The is big difference between parvo and intestinal blockage and the vet letting you come home without telling you which is not exactly evoking confidence.  Get to a difffernt vet and ask for rapid response test..

I have blog on parvo symptoms and treatment options.

    Shots don't always protect 100%

It coudl also be worms.. the reason vet smelled thermometer is because parvo has a smell to it but that is not teh rapid response test I had in mind.. ours cost about 80 bucks to get results.

  7. Take him to another vet asap. Good luck
