Question:

My dog is sick, what should I do!?!?

My dog has kennel cough, but I read online to just leave her alone if she was still eating and playing and the sickness will just get better on its own. She was eating and playing, so I didn't take her to the vet. Well today, she wont eat ANYTHING, she wont play, she vomited earlier, and it sounds like her nose is really stuffed up when she breathes.

Does she need a vet, or will it pass? My mom is gone, and we only have one car, so I can't take her to the vet right away. I'm kind of freaking right now because my mom doesn't think anything of it, and she just says "Oh, she's just sleepy because she is sick."

Please tell me what I should do!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!

  1. Well, don't worry because you can't take her to the vet right this second. But, to be safe I would take her to the vet when you first get a chance, just to get her checked out judt in case.

Good Luck and I hope she feels better =]

  2. Wait til tomorrow and if it's not better, or if she's still not eating, take her to the vet.

  3. Well kennel cough is a viral infection and therefore there is not much we can do and here is the bad side of the coin. Kennel Cough if not attended on time with some expectorants can develop into a Pneumonia. In the animal hospital where I work we usually start right away with treatments of antibiotics and nebulizations(a mix of antibiotics and expectorants which the dog will inhale) and withing 48 to 72 hours you start seeing some results. Please do not wait long before taking your pet to the hospital. Good luck.

  4. If your dog is vomiting and isn't eating then you should take her to the vet. It could develop into something more serious and it is better to get it checked out now. Your vet could give her an antibiotic or different food that could really help.

  5. Take her to a vet. ASAP or call the vet and ask him/her what they think you should do.

  6. If you love your dog you will take her to the vet.  You should talk your mom into taking her to the vet because it could be life or death situation and it's not worth your dog dying just because she wasn't given proper care.

  7. It sounds to me like she needs to see a vet and be put on antibiotics. In the meantime, run a vaporizer and offer her warm chicken broth or beef broth, which will help to clear some of the congestion. Kennel cough can turn into pneumonia,so get her to the vet first thing tomorrow.

  8. for peace of mind take the dog to the vet they may or may not be able to help u but if anythink happened to it u would fell ba 4 not tryin

  9. TAKE HER TO THE VET NOW!!!!!

My dog had the same symtems last week, and we found out she has Parvo. She is fighting for her life.

You have to take her to the vet. If she has parvo, her chances of survivng are 40%. My dog is better now, thanks to treatment. The vet said if I had waited one more day, my dog would be dead.

  10. Well, ya gotta watch carefully because once animals start going downhill, they can go really fast, faster than a person enough to die. This is the first day she hasn't been eating so I wouldn't worry too much...if she stops drinking water and pooing that's a problem that needs to be taken to the vet immediately. If she doesn't eat after a couple days take her to the vet also.

  11. In more severe (complicated) cases where the animal is not eating, running a fever, or showing signs of pneumonia, antibiotics are often used. The most common ones are tetracycline or trimethoprim-sulfa. However, many other choices are also available. Steroids or cough suppressants are not usually recommended because of the risk of immunosuppressive with steroids and the need to continue to clear extra fluid or mucous in pneumonia patients. Bronchodilators and even aerosol therapy can be used. In moderate or severe cases, veterinary care should be instituted, as the resultant pneumonia could become life threatening if not treated properly and promptly.

From what you said, it sounds like your dog is getting worse instead of better so a trip to the vet will probably be a good idea.

  12. Kennel cough in dogs is similar to bronchitis in humans. While it is more serious in young puppies, it still requires treatment in older dogs. I would definitely see the vet tomorrow.

    Good Luck.
