We have talked to the vet.

Okay since about 2 am our lab mix has been sick to her tummy we got up with her probably 4 times over the course of the night. We have spoken with the vet. She said two teaspoons of liquid immodium should help.

What caused this? Well we are in the process of switching food and yes we are properly mixing the old with the new. We normally watch them when they eat but last night we had to step outside for a minute and she ate her bowl and part of poodles dinner as well. So we are pretty sure that is what caused it. Not to mention we both were really upset over something last night and I know both dogs got upset. Could it be a combination of the two events?

The vet said to fast her today. No food until tomorrow morning and start off with rice tomorrow. she looked so pitiful this morning. But after the medicine she seems to be doing better. I also have some soothing music playing for her to calm her. Is there anything else i can do to make her more comfortable today. I will be here with her all day.

Question two. We are in a new apartment. And she made a poopy mess (diarehha) on a portion of our carpet. Do you know any tricks to get it our of beige/tan carpet. I have a little green machine I have been using and Natures Miracle. Most of it came out but there is a slight stain. Any tips would be great.

thanks

  1. I'm glad she seems better and that you called the vet first instead of coming to ask on a computer site.

As far as the stain goes, just rent a rug doctor and shampoo, add some Nature's Miracle to it and clean the carpet once you're sure the episode is over.

As far as why it happened, it's hard to say. It could be that the new food is a bit rich compared to her old food and you need to switch more slowly.  It could also be the new food has something in it that disagrees with her. Or it could even just be one of those things that happens for no real discernable reason.

I would keep her on a very bland diet today, rice and a little boiled chicken. If her stools are still loose give her a bit of plain canned pumpkin (not pie mix) and some slippery elm bark powder (available at most health stores) to help solidify the stools and soothe her system.

  2. I had an Akita that would get sick to his stomach once in a while it just seem to be a nervous thing with him. As far as the carpet try an oxi spot cleaner for carpets.

  3. Sounds like you're doing the right things physically, and she should be better soon.  As to the stains, depends on what kind of fiber your carpet's made of.  We have had some success with either hydrogen peroxide or a baking soda rub.  Like you, however, we've never been able to get it out entirely; you can still see it if you know where it was.
