My dog keeps gagging / choking? (chihuahua)?

Question

It will start with her just kinda coughing slightly, then she will open her mouth the same way a dog does when they throw up, but instead she just gags.

Something I've noticed, is that plenty of young chihuahuas have done this.

She seems fine, plays, runs around, its just that she's been doing that recently.

Anyone know what this might be?

get an allergy test. thats what i did.

i have one and he does it too. When he is exciteed though, like if I just came home or hes going outside. Scary sound but it's fine, everytime he starts to cough bad I di something to calm him down. I pick him up and just hold him without saying anything ( no kisses cuz they excite him) or if he is really coughing I set him on my kitchen counter for a sec. It changes his mood from excited to wondering if he's getting a bath lol.

i have one as well we were told kennel cough witch it could be it very common  in dogs but we later found out that they get asthma and thats what  she has

like they said above it happens when she get exited
