My dog knocked over my cayenne pepper plant. They were are just about ready and big but still green, not red.

No9 the plant is detached from the ground. Can I stiull use it? Can I still sun dry it?

You can take what is called a "ristra" and hang the cayennes to dry and then once dried (8 to 10 weeks) you can grind them into a powder to have fresh cayenne pepper all year..You can also make a pepper vinegar from the green ones simply by adding vinegar in a bottle with them..to pour over beans, greens etcetera..here are some pictures and some info on this..I simply took 8 pound test monofilament fishing line nd put a craft needle on it and stuck the needle through the stem area and hung outside to dry... You need to keep them out of DIRECT SUNLIGHT..and hang in a place that has air circulation so they dont mold...here are pictures of all of what I mentioned..

You can see the cayenne peppers both red and green in this pepper vinegar on top..I prefer apple cider vinegar over regular white vinegar..

Here you see cayennes I started hanging when green(it has ben about 6 weeks now) and they have turned red..still have a few weeks untill completely dry..they go dark brown when totally dry..

Keep the plant up higher or in a heavier pot.  Don't scold your dog.

I'm sure you can, chillies dry well.   I thought red chillies were green chillies left to ripen and both are edible. There are many types of peppers with degrees of hotness.

from a chilli grower harvest your chilli the colour is no problem replant   the bush and see how you go split the pods and dry  them and hey presto set your friends on fire
