Before anyone calls me a backyard breeder, i have no interest in breeding dogs, and had Kodi neutered over 3 months ago. I didn't even think it was possible to tie once neutered?

  1. So whats the question?

  2. It happens, and it's fairly common.  There are other sources of testosterone in a male dog's body besides his testes, so the behaviors are not always eliminated.

The "equipment" still works but the drive is *sometimes* reduced in a male dog.  Others will still behave much like an intact male, especially if they've been used for breeding in the past.

There's a discussion about this on one of the Basenji forums I belong to, right now.  Many of the breeders on the list have had 1 or 2 neutered males that would still tie with intact females.

No pups should result from this, and it's not harmful.

  3. That doesn't make sense because neutered dogs have no urge to mate. And even if he somehow did, there's no way the female can be pregnant.

    Very odd.

  4. Actually, it's quite possible!  Only the testes have been removed,  so neutered males are capable of shooting blanks, especially if the neutering was done after puberty.   The testes produce 90% of the body's supply of testosterone, and the adrenal glands the other 10%. So they are never without testosterone.  Yours was done pretty recently, so the testosterone levels have probably not dropped to the  10% mark yet.

I had an Australian shepherd that I had neutered at age 3, no prior breeding experience.  When he was 6 yrs old I found the neighbor's border collie female locked in my dog run with a note asking me to keep her until she was out of heat.   Well, I figured my guy was probably pretty safe company,  and I had only one dog run, so I put him in there with her.  They achieved a tie in less than 2 minutes and it lasted for about 15 minutes.  They repeated the breeding every hour or so for the next 5 days.  He was shooting blanks, though, so no litter resulted.  And on the bright side, once she realized she was getting what she wanted, she quit trying to rip her way out of my dog run to get to the males congregated outside!

  5. Nope, it's possible.

Don't feel bad - we once had a neutered boy outside with our Hope who was just coming into heat. He'd never shown any interest in her when she was in heat before. That day was different, though - look outside, and surprise! He'd been neutered for over a year at that point, so we certainly weren't expecting it :P

We were planning on breeding her for the first time that cycle, so Buzz's nickname became the divirginator...poor boy!

Anyway, if it's been 3 months, I wouldn't worry about any 'leftover' sperm.

  6. Yes, neutered males tie in season b*tches quite often.

  7. Yep it happens but no puppies should result from it.

  8. I disagree with the person who said dogs who are altered have no urge to "tie". Our German Shepherd has been "fixed" for 7 1/2 years, does it all the time, even with some dogs that arent in heat. Some dogs just dont care, but we have never had puppies as a result. Good Luck, I hope you and your friend can relax now :)

  9. even though he is neutered he still can tie with an intact female...No he will not produce puppies..

add---Afe female when spayed has no interest in mating, BUT a male can and will have the urge to mate as he didnt loose his p***s only his testicals...if that is the case like the one lady stated a male having no urge to mat with an intact femal, then a male human that has beed fixed, should no longer have the urge to have s*x with a femal..basically, a male only looses the semon that produces the puppies (testicals) not nothing else..a female looses her whole repoductive organs(uterus) so hence not wanting a male to mate with her as she no longer has her sycle..

  10. if he has been neutered for that long then there is no chance of the dog becoming pregnant
