My husband and I are in the process of separation & divorce after years of cheating and lies and abuse on his part and lots of nagging and crying and whining and threatening on mine...so aren't we both charming...toxic...yeah. Anyway, I asked him to leave and he did - after a big crying fit trauma session.

But since he's paying all the bills & we're trying to make this amicable (unlike our marriage), he comes over sometimes & we go out to eat and chill...then he'll sleep in the guest room. Effed up, I know, but he's paying the bills for now, so it's no skin off my back. He's been here three times. The second time, my dog peed on the floor of the guest room. A week passed & husband spent the night again. This time the dog peed on my husband's clothes that he put on the floor before he went to bed. So what does that mean? Is it a sign of love or hate or marking his territory?

  1. I would say that your dog is sensitive to your feelings and isn't real happy with the soon-to-be-ex.  Tell him to close the bedroom door.

  2. is it male or female?

  3. Sorry, but the dog is showing more sense than you are,my dear.He doesn't want him there and is making it pretty plain.

Paying the bills is no excuse for letting him stay in your life..pay your own bills. And tell him to kiss off.

  4. If he hasnt been around much, then it could be the dog establishing his territory again. Another male in the house, and the dog might feel threatened, so he's establishing who's boss.

  5. do you really need to ask? Put yourself in the dogs position here - If your friend was supposed to be getting out of a dodgy relationship and then let her husband stay over, wouldnt you feel like peeing on his clothes!!! lol!

  6. Maybe he is simply not keen on your husband!!

If a dog --esp. a male dog--pees on a person it means the dog challenges this person for leadership or for position in the pack.

  7. animals are very territorial and very protective . its probably your dogs way of saying he doesnt want your husband around . when me and my wife separated my cat sprayed on all her clothes that were still there . my cat never did that before and never did it again . same thing

  8. Im finding this very interesting indeed.

Your dog is marking his territory. As your ex has been away your dog feels that it is now his territory.

He is making a mark in the guest room and on your ex's clothes because he only needs to let him know who's territory it now is.

You need to remember in the wild when a dog marks it's territory it acts as an invisible fence keeping others out.

Your dog does not respect your ex or feels he is part of his pack, he is a tresspasser in your dogs eyes now and he needs to stay out!

Your dog is giving him the hint, so to speak.

Also I feel your dog is the leader here in his eyes (in reguards to you), hence more reason to mark HIS territory.
