Question:

My dog puts her feet in water?

i have a sheltie and when she drinks water, she always sticks her foot in the bowl. sometimes her feet are dirty, so it turns the water to mud. and then she walks around the house and trails dirty water everywhere. is there any way i can get her to quit this habit?

  1. when you take her on walks, either take of your shoes and fell the ground or use your hands. if you cant stand like that for over 1min, then your dogs feet might be getting burned liek that and it wants to put it in water to cool it off


  2. When you see it happen tell her no.  Gently pull her foot out of the bowl.  Keep doing that.  She'll get it.

  3. My friends Norwich Terrier does the same thing when he drinks.  He'll lay down with his front paws and head in the water and splash around.  To get this to stop you can either get a thing to hold your water dish at a raised height so that she can not put her paws in it easily, or you can get her to stop this behavior by telling her No and taking away the water when you see her putting her paws in it.  With some consistency, she should catch on.
