My dog was just coughing, wheezing, and threw up what looked like white foam...?

he is a 2 year old Min Pin and has an appointment for shots tomorrow at 5:30PM (they are a bit overdue unfortunately). He wheezed for about 2 minutes, threw up a little white foam, then continued coughing until he saw a dog and was distracted. He immediately ran inside and just fell asleep.

I'm wondering if I should take him to a vet right now or just wait for his appointment tomorrow.

  1. don't worry .. it happened to my dog once.. nothing serious .. dogs usually have that .. i believe its a Kennel caught .. nothing to worry about.. few medicines from the doctor tomorrow and he will be fine in about 5 days

  2. He is probably OK to wait until tomorrow.  He does not seem like he is in distress now, but just keep an eye on it.  As long as he can breathe OK, it is not an emergency.  Rather if the coughing and wheezing continue it could be a sign of kennel cough which you need to bring to the attention of the vet.

The foam is probably because he was coughing so much and not anything to worry about unless there is blood.

  3. It's his allergies. My small dog gets like that for two reasons 1. she gets overly excited (p.s when I told the vet about the wheezing/goose sound I was told it was a lung condition that will effect the dog down the road once they are older-- she's roughly 6 yrs old and is fine.) reason 2. is allergies.  Because they are low to the ground they pick all the allergens low to the ground. I use children's liquid Benadryl-- it works wonders!

  4. He's fine. Dogs do that.

  5. it might be rabies, make sure you get a rabies test tomorrow
