My dog won't stop l*****g and sniffing the carpet!?

Lately, my dog has been acting really weird. He won't stop l*****g the carpet and sniffing the floor. Then, he goes and licks and sniffs his butt. He keeps going on the same area of carpet too, walking around in circles. It's driving me crazy watching him do this, so I imagine he must be going nuts, too. I don't know why he keeps on doing this strange behavior? Do you think there is something in my carpet? Should I take my dog to the bet because of this? He got very angry at me when I tried to pull him away from the carpet. What should I do?

Hi! I am a vet tech and this is a common issue. He more than likely has full anal glands and like someone said earlier, there is probably anal gland secretion on the carpet. I would take him to get his anal glands expressed. Banfield, the Pet Hospital inside of Petsmart does it for around $20. This should help the problem a bit. I would probably clean the carpets too! Hope it works!
