My dog wont feed her pups, they are 4 weeks, she starting not wanting to feed them when they were 2 weeks and I made her lay down and feed them for at least 15 minutes 4 times a day. When they turned 3 weeks I started moistening puppy chow with milk replacement and they are still eating it and doing good. Do you think that this is ok?

  1. Yes... Glad you are feeding the pups. Now have the mom spayed.

  2. The pups should have started to have been weaned from 3 weeks so she wont be needing to feed them so much.  She will feed tham a little perhaps at night but you shouldnt make her.

You have answered your own question - the pupps are doing fine, mum knows best.

  3. I would also try to feed the mother a little more protein.  She will need extra calories and protein because if you think about she is feeding for several.  Also are the teats hot and swollen?  It could be mastitis for which she would need to see your vet.  Best of luck, and thank you for jumping in to feed the pups, just don't forget about your mommy and I agree, please get her spayed.  If it is a financial decision there are low cost programs Everywhere just start by calling your local ASPCA or animal shelter, they  will direct you I promise.  Good luck

  4. I agree with the first answer.... Now it's time to spay your dog. There is NO need to breed anymore dogs... there are currently 7 million homeless animals in the US... Why add to that number?

  5. Puppies sound like they are being weaned and you are correct in replacing mother's milk with kibble.

As you did not ask about spaying mother, I think it is none of our business to suggest what you should do with mother.  I believe we still live in a free country and you know what is best for your dog.  After all, if all our pets are spayed and neutered, in several years there won't be any more pets.

  6. If the mom isnt feeding, the mom should be checked with a vet. Ask the vet but I would bottle feed the puppies.
