Question:

My dogs all love having the tops of their noses (the bridge?) rubbed. Any evolutionary biological reason?

I have five dogs--all are the "long-snouted" kind--they definitely see me as their "leader"--they like this particular kind of attention so much that they specifically seek it out--much in the way dogs I've had in the past have sought out belly-rubs.

  1. I send all my dogs to sleep doing that! They love it

  2. Well, apart from being a sign of trust towards you, I imagine it also feels good.

  3. Nope.

    No evolutionary biological reasons atall.

It is simply because they can't scratch themselves there. my dog is short snouted and seriously if you just touch him there so much fur will come out you don't know what to do with it.

They can't rub that part against anything either as they don't want to bump there nose.

  4. I myself have 7 dogs. All of them love getting there nose's rubbed. It seems to be a comfort thing. Like they trust you. This sounds funny but I have heard that if you can take your finger and slowly move it towards your dogs eye and they don't blink. They 100% trust you and have not a care in the world.

  5. Babies enjoy this as well... when i was sad as a little girl I used to suck my thumb and my mummy would stroke the bridge of my nose and it would calm me down.

My doggies enjoy this also.  It makes them go to sleep.

  6. no they just like particularly there to be stroked
