  1. in a cool dry place

  2. I've had the best luck, by leaving them in the pot that they were growing in.  Don't let them freeze and in late fall I  move them to a drak corner of the basement.  Quit watering them, (maybe a little water once a month)  The leaves and stem will fall off and they will look dead.  In Spring move them to a sunny spot and start watering again and they will start regrowing.(lots of times they will start sprouting even before you move them from the basement.)  Move outside when the weather permits.

  3. Lift the tubers at first frost on a dry day and cut the plant to three inches from the tuber. Gently rub the dirt off the tubers. Place in vermiculite, obtained from a gardening center, in a plastic carton with a plastic lid in which you have poked several small holes to allow for air flow. Put the box in a closet or another cool, dry place to overwinter. Avoid basements and places in which dampness or critters can get to your tubers. Start them indoors up to six weeks before estimated last frost and move them outdoors when the ground temp reaches 70 degrees fahrenheit.

Since you seem to really appreciate this wonderful plant, why not enjoy a great indoor version, the Rex Begonia? These are spectacular, will bloom indoors and have the most beautiful leaves of any begonia, ranging from deepest burgundy to light pink, green and silver -- they are so beautiful that you won't really care whether you get blooms or not! There are many different kinds, and they look wonderful together.

  4. I put mine in a shoe box filled with wood shavings (pet bedding) & keep them the bottom of the wardrobe!
