My dream, my life, is it over?

I got accepted to a University that i have my heart set on. I got a full scholarship but my parents and the rest of my family don't want me to go because they don't have enough money to send me off to Northern Arizona University NAU. I live in Cali. They won't be able to fund money to me if I ever run out, despite the fact that I will have an on campus job. So I can't go to the university. I have to go to a local college, even though thats not what I want to do. My parents will be heartbroken if I go out of state. I'm not sure if going to el camino will make things better or worse. I don't want to put stress on them. I got a full scholarship at NAU though, thats the thing. They understand that, but they cannot simply afford to let me go right now. They think I'm going to resent them and hate community college. I don't want to turn out that way. This is just a battle that I can't win because of finances. I can't believe I have to give up my dream :(

  1. You got a full scholarship and you cant afford to go?  Isn't that what a full scholarship is?  Are you sure it pays for your out of state portion as well?  If not, then maybe you can renegotiate with the school to pay for that and your dorm room too.  Don't give up.  there is always a way... you just haven't found it yet.

  2. Don't give up your dream; It's your dream, not theirs. Being an adult means that you have to decide for yourself; You can't listen to what your parents say all of the time. They don't always know what's best for their kid. If you want to go, really want to go, then go. Get a nighttime or weekend job close to campus, and make money that way. You should try to get a place somewhere with roomates, so you split the cost of staying there. Your parents will get overit eventually; It sounds like they're afraid of losing you. Write to them, and let them know how you are doing once you get there, but don't just give up your dream; You have a wonderful opportunity. One that hundreds of people would kill for, so don't blow it. Start looking for jobs now, find a plan, and go for it!!!!!!!!!!

    Best of luck.

  3. student loan? and if u have scholarship + job, where is the question of running out?

  4. So you have a full scholarship to the university you actually want to attend.

There are no expenses needed to be worried about for the year because you have a full scholarship.

Yet your family says they can't afford it so you can't go?

It sounds like they're just grasping at straws to keep you home.

Kiss Mommy and Daddy goodbye. This is your life, not theirs, and if you're ready to go to university and live on your own you're ready to be responsible for your own finances.

  5. Ah come on. Seriously? You just said you got a full scholarship,

and if that isnt enough, get a job! If that in it self is enough, go out and get a student loan! There are plenty of alternatives to running back to the parents for cash. You just have to be assertive. Are you saying that your parents rely on you for financial support? Or vice versa? You can still send them money while you are away if you have to. Are you saying you simply cant afford to travel to arizona? Buy a one-way bus ticket.

If you want something in life, you have to work for it. Otherwise, the great things that you want will never be yours.
