  1. I dont think so. I want to go there someday too! I think everyone tries to make it sound like french people are rude but I think they just assume that because of like there accents and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure they arent. I'm mostly french.

  2. I have but it simply isnt true. in some places, maybe, but not everywhere. I sugest you learn to speak the language. the common misconception of being rude is simpley that they take pride in their language, they dont appreciate americanes chopping it up. also be careful on the underground and in the streets...you may get your pocket spicked. have fun!

  3. I would have to say yes they called me a ******* craker!!

  4. they are rude in the same sense english people are rude i.e. they are not nice...

however it is still worth going...

  5. well everywhere you go ppl are rude............so who knows. i hope not. if thats the case........i want to move there!!!!!!!! lol

  6. They're no more rude in Paris than they are in almost any big city. Big city living is stressful.  People running around trying to do their business and conduct their already frantic lives in big cities can get a little "short" with tourists who innocently ask "Where's Notre Dame Cathedral?" when they're standing across the river from it.  It isn't Parisians who are rude, it's just sort of a Big City thing.  Of course, some big cities pruide themselves in being courteous and helpful to tourists. The best one is San Francisco.  Everyone there is super nice!  (Guess where I live?)

  7. Paris is beautiful (although it IS still a big city, so it's not going to be spotless) and no the French are not rude. Well, at least not as long as you respect their culture just a little. At least learn a few basic French phrases (hello, thank you, you are welcome, please)...and you should be fine. Remember that when you go into some of the smaller shops in France, that the person working is most likely the owner. They consider their shop a part of their home and you are a guest, be polite to them and they will return the courtesy. Paris is a wonderful city and with anywhere, is what you make of it. Keep an open mind and relax and enjoy the French culture. It's well worth the trip!

  8. I'm moving there to study this year so I've been reading up on the culture. Everything I've read says that the French are just a bit more stand offish than Americans. In America, we smile at strangers as an expression of friendliness, but in France, they view this as somewhat imbecile.  They are a very proud people - proud of their food, culture, and heritage. But I dont think they are neccesarily nasty and rude, unless you give them a reason to. I suggest reading the book "CultureShock". It has a lot of advice on how to act in Paris. I'm going there for a week at the end of June. I'll let you know how they treated me. ;)

  9. A friend from Chicago went last year, and he said the people were very friendly, welcoming and not the least bit rude. It helps if you try a few words or phrases in French--they appreciate that. So plan your trip and don't worry!

  10. I went over spring break last year and tlaked to several people (practicing my four years of french lessons) and no one was really rude. It all depends on who you talk to. People in stores you are buying things from aren't going to be rude, they want your buisness. I talked to an old man in the park, he was very nice and had a good sense of humor! However, there are people around the eiffel tower especially trying to sell you things and they are VERY rude and will grab on to you. I think in general people observe the French as being rude because of the diffrent cultures. what is rude american may not seem rude to a french person. It all depends on how you look at things. Meet people half way.

But if it is your dream to go to Paris, then go, forget about the people. You will lvoe it and you don't have to say a word to anyone. Just riding along the river and having notre dame and the tower rise around you is breath taking. Just go and experience, don't worry about rude people.

  11. I don't think so. I think they are very courteous. I was there a couple of years ago and it was wonderful.

  12. No my dear quite the contrary-Nothing can compare to the American Public!  WE are the rudest people on earth, just ask someone from Europe, they will tell you.  WE are not very well liked by most other country's.  DRRRRR, I wonder why?  Just look around here and its not hard to figure out.  Ive never asked one question and been without one nasty or smart *** answer yet.

  13. I was there when Clinton was pres. and they were really nice to us. We didn't have a single incidence of rudeness. However, the daughter of a friend just came back and said that because there is anti French sentiment among some people in the US now and talk of boycotting French products, the French are not as happy with Americans anymore. That is becoming true all over the world. Wait until the political situation changes before you travel overseas.

  14. Oh they are rude but it's an art form over there lol

Go!! You will love it. Never let anyone's opinion of some place stop you from going and checking it out yourself.

  15. there just jealous cause americans invented math.

  16. I really believe that if you are acting like an snooty American, they are going to be rude back. If you refuse to speak their language why would they want to be nice. I think that it is a good idea to try and embrace someones culture when you are in their country. You will get a much warmer response.
