  1. i suggest that you should wait till track to focus on your 1600 because right now you should be training for cross country. My team trains all summer for cross country and we went to the state meet. If you train now you could acheive your goal of 17 minutes in a 5k. summer is for high mileage you should be steadily increasing your miles throughout the summer. then when track comes around you should run like 50 mile weeks and run twice a day like in the morning and afternoon and you can acheive your goal of 5 min or less.

  2. try to run in a fast race and u will get a better time as long as u dont giv up. wen u run on ur own race u always run slower than if its a close competetive fast race.

  3. why are you running distance workouts for track. i just broke 5 minutes this season in track and we did alot of speed work (800, 400, 800, 400,) and indian runs.

  4. follow ur dream

    and remember practice makes perfect

  5. Wow, our times are fairly similar. My 5 mile time was 34:35 and my 5k is 19:06. My mile time is 5:09. You're definitely taking the right path with your training. Try incorporating some speed workouts like sprints and 400m repeats. You should do about 8 400m repeats, each as fast as you can with a 2-3 minute active recovery in between. You should also be doing some hill sprints and ab workouts. When you're running those 5-6 miles, try running some of them at about a 7:30-8:00 minute mile pace. Hope this helps and good luck!
