I'm going to college next year, but I'm not completely sure what my major should be. I'm thinking Environmental Science, but what if I want to work for an animal rights agency? What should I major in then?

  1. Suggestion: Don't work for PETA. I live where they are headquartered and I volunteered there when I was 15 for "job experience." A lot (not all) of the people there are nuts and think they're p**p doens't stink, to be honest with you.  There are far better animal rights organizations to work with, in my opinion.

Anyway, I think Environmental Science is broad enough to enable you to be employed in both fields in some form. I imagine that saving the environment and animal goes hand in hand. Try a place that maybe leans more towards both, or tends to stick with wild animals like WWF.

However, I am no expert in this so I'm not sure how accurate my advice will be for you.

  2. My dream is to kill a 30" mule deer buck this year.  My best so far is 28 1/2".  Environmental science would be a good choice for you.

  3. Ummm... you know what PETA does... right?

Major in environmental and wild life biology hats what Im majoring in, I want a similar career)

But PETA doesn't help animals in a way most people think. They beleive every animal should be free and there should be no pets- that doesn't sound so bad right? well the fact that to acheive this goal they euthanize any dogs and cats they can. i beleive theres a website with more info, called www.petakillsanimals.com

  4. You can major in wildlife conservation, zoology, biology, ecology, or any one of a number of things. Try to get as wide a sampling of courses during your freshman year, just in case you want to change majors.

Do remember that a wildlife conservationist is working for the overall good of the environment. This may require killing off animals to protect the ecosystem. If you can't do that, find a new major.

If you want to work for PETA or another animal rights organization, you don't need any education at all, just an agenda. If you know too much about ecology or environmental science, that will get in the way of following the PETA party line.
