My driver's license was stolen. What are some consequences I will have to face/deal with?

I am worried about identity theft, the thief knowing my birth date and address, and all the unknowns as this has never happened to me before and I feel vulnerable and unprotected. Also, if you know of anything I can do to catch or thwart the thief's plan, please do tell!

  1. well i don't know too much but all i know is if whoever that person is that stole ur drivers license gets into trouble and the cops r involved they will probably contact u and let u know that ur license was found but if not then god knows what that guy can do with that license. i doubt anything really bad is gonna happen but good luck. if you want to like idk go to ur local police station and tell them that ur license was stolen they could be on the lookout for one. good luck

  2. Keep an eye on your mail, your bank accounts, your credit cards, etc.  If you see anything suspicious, report it right away.  You are not responsible for what the person does.  Your liability with credit is limited to $50, and with some cards it's not even that.

Of course you should apply for a new driver's license right away.  If you get stopped by a cop, he will understand, so long as you actually have a license.

  3. Well the first thing you need to do is report it to the DMV as stolen and get a replacement, as you are driving illegally if you are not carrying one.

Second, report it to the police, so they can have the number on file if someone tries to use it.

You might also want to put a 90 day freeze on your credit at each of the three major bureaus.  Big note, there is a small fee for this and YOU will not be able to easily apply for credit in those 90 days either, but better safe than sorry.

There's not much you can do about the person knowing your address other than make sure to lock up when leaving the house.

  4. just go to the dmv, no use in getting stressed out.

your drivers liscence has no value in terms of using it against your name. has a much info as looking up a person in the phone book.

just go to dmv and they'll give you a new one.

  5. Get a new one.

  6. When you report your license as stolen or lost your licens # is flaged and any one using that # other than you will be arrested. You should also notify your credit agencies.
