  1. First-time License (Texas Resident Over 18)

Be 18 or over (if not, see the requirements for teen drivers).

    Provide proof of identity.

Provide proof of Social Security number.

Provide proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance, if you own a vehicle.

Complete required application forms available at any Texas driver license office.

    Pay the required fee.

Pass the written, driving, and vision examinations. The applicant must provide the vehicle for the driving test.

Your application must include a photograph and thumbprint.

  2. Although I live in California, I'm sure the rules are pretty close. Well I had my permit when I was under 18, my permit expired, and the SAME thing happened. The good news is you don't need to retake your 3 behind the wheel lessons or the boring inclass training/online (or whatever you did). However, can you DO need to take your permit test again. All you  need after is to take your drivers test.Oh yea, At 18 your license won't be provisonal and you can drive with minors and at all hours. No worries you already passed once :)
