My dryer is making a funny noise... Help!!!!

When my dryer is on, it sounds like a washing machine agitating (exactly the same). What could be wrong with my dryer??? What can I do to fix it???

  1. OMG!! make sure the cats out of it before turning it on again..... lol

    Seriously- it's prolly a loose belt. Un plug it, remove the front or side cover to get a glimpse inside. Check for a warn belt and also check to see if it's rolling within it's tracks.

    You can do this by turning it on with the cover removed.

    Be very careful not to put your hands/hair anywhere near the moving parts..  


  2. If its the belt its an easy fix but will take two sets of hands.

  3. Dryers have very few moving parts, it sounds like the rollers or the idler pulley is worn, this is common on whirlpool dryers, Maytag style dryers like Magic chef and admiral the blower wheel will come loose from the motor shaft and make a bunch of noise. 25 years of repairing appliances.

  4. The little wheel that the barrel spins on is worn out or the drive belt is slipping.

  5. I expect that the drive belt is slack. You should check it and replace it if that is the case.
