  1. Take your lint filter to your kitchen sink. Run water on it - does it just pool up or run through? If it pools up, gently scrub it with a little bit of dish soap and rinse. Let it dry thoroughly before putting it back. Dryer sheets cause buildup on the lint filter causing air to not flow properly - this could cause a fire.

It could also be a heating element. These are relatively inexpensive to replace.

  2. As one fellow said in response to a question like this the other day, "Better questions with a little more information will yield much better answers."  A brand and approximate age of the appliance would be a big help, electric or gas, clothes or hair, etc.

  3. clothes or hair???

If hair, but a new one. They are cheap.

If clothes, it sound like the heating element has gone out. A good handyman or friend should be able to look up the part and replace it. My husband did mine and saved us from buying a new dryer. Good luck

  4. What type of dryer? Hair or clothes?

If it is a hair dryer you might just toss it out and buy a new one.

If it is your clothes dryer then it may be worth having a service technician take a look. They usually charge between $50- $75 per hour plus parts. If you know an electrician they may have the test equipment (volt/ohm meter) that can help check the various parts (thermal fuse, heating element, etc).

Below are a couple good sites that may help. They have diagrams of the dryers and parts cost.

As far as an easy fix, I would say no unless you feel comfortable removing the front panel and checking a few things like the thermal fuse.

  5. If that setting doesn't work then try just drying you hair with the warm or cool settings if your dryer does not have these different setting then I recommend getting one that does, the cool setting is less damaging to the hair and leaves it less frizzy in the end.

  6. Before you buy a new toaster if it doesn't work, you check to see if it is plugged in.

Check your power first. It is possible, more so if you are on fuses, to have only one side of the 220v go out and the dryer will still run but not heat.

Second is most likely the heating element. That is not so easy unless you are fairly handy and technical.

If not those it can be several things.

    Good Luck

  7. It should be an easy fix.  It sounds like a thermostat or the like, needs replacing.

I hate when that stuff happens...
