I just put some clothes in the dryer and turned it on. The dryer was making a weird noise so I turned it off and now it smells like burnt rubber. What could be wrong with it and what should I do about it?

  1. one of the belts in the motor could be burning out or something, I would get the dryer looked at.

  2. OUCH!  The best guess is that what you smell is your dryer belt smoldering. This happens when the belt cannot turn the drum, and sticks in one place.  The heat comes from the drive pulley's friction against the belt. Try removing the laundry and rotating the drum once by hand with nothing turned on, then turn it to air fluff and try to start it with nothing in the dryer.  If the drum turns now, try again to dry your clothes,  If that doesn't work, it's time for a repair call or a new machine.
