My dvd cd combo drive can read and write only cds and not dvds,why?

it can only read and write dvds and not cds.what is the reason?i have tried reinstalling the device and driver both but it won't work.

  1. try to perform the dvd lens cleaner. if cannot, check the combo drive firmware upgrade available or not. upgrade the firmware may solve the issue.
