Tried to play a cd on my dvd rom last night and it wouldnt play - checked device manager and the drive had a '!' over it did the troubleshooter which said to uninstall then reinstall the driver. Tried that and its still got the error symbol. The drive was working a few days ago and i havent installed anything new, both antivirus and antispyware say the system is clean.

Troubleshooter says if that if reinstalling doesnt sort it find help elsewhere so here I am lol. Someone please help!!!

  1. Dear PAL

    1. Restore your system on earlier days, if it is windows xp

    2. Create a new user id

    3. if both method not working than uninstall the driver loaded for DVD AND DISCONNECT THE DVD ROM hardware

delete all temp file-- type %temp% in RUN  from Start Menu

than type regedit in RUN and find and delete all registry related to the cd / dvd rom

than type cmd in run to go in dos mode-- type sfc/scannow to replace all bad file of window- it may ask you for the CD of window-- restart your system

check and download new updated driver form net for the dvd rom

now connect the cd rom... it may ask you driver cd. and load complete software.

    enjoy..

  2. Hi,

Normally, cd/dvd rom's do not need a driver as they are seen in the bios as hard drives.

So, re-boot your pc and get into the bios and check that the rom is seen there.

If it is not then check the connections.

The only software that you require is that for burning cd/dvd's or using re-writable cd/dvd/s.

  3. You could also try deleting the device from the device manager and letting windows reinstall it after a restart.

  4. It seems you have to upgrade the firmware, also you need to update the drive as well.  Go to the homepage of the CD/DVD-ROM brand you had to see they release any new firmware or driver.
